VICTORIA

On 1 October 2014, Victoria introduced much stricter penalties for drink driving in an attempt to reduce the number of alcohol-related accidents and fatalities on the state’s roads. Convicted offenders will face a period of disqualification from driving, followed by application for a licence with an interlock condition and subsequent enrolment on the Victoria Alcohol Interlock Program. All interlocks installed after 30 January 2015 must be fitted with a camera.

VicRoads monitors driving activity very closely through the interlock system and requires strict conditions to be met while on the program. Only when the offender has consistently demonstrated safe driving behaviour and the ability to separate drinking and driving will VicRoads consider granting completion of the program.

If you commenced on the Alcohol Interlock Program before the new laws came into effect, you will continue on the old program until completion. However, if your drink driving offense happened after this date, or if you have completed the old program and committed a new offense after this date, you will be subject to the rules of the current program. More information on both the old and current programs and the changes made can be found under Participant Information.

From 1 December 2019, there will be changes to court order and alcohol interlock requirements.

Follow the below link for further information and to download the Interlock Installation Certificate.  This certificate MUST be completed by the driver and signed by your interlock installer before you are able to obtain your “I” condition licence.  Please ensure you bring this form to your installation.
